A Tale of Two Cities: School Districts and Gender Inclusion
Schools are responding to individual students’ transitions as they happen. Is there a more proactive approach? What are the considerations for conversations with children, teenagers, parents, administration and engaging community beyond the school system? A school educator from Seattle and the gender-inclusion team from the Chicago school district discuss their experiences working to create comprehensive school- and community-wide approaches to the issue of inclusion for trans students.
Panelists include Owen Daniel-McCarter, Esq., executive director of Illinois Safe School Alliance, Gearah Goldstein, advocate and co-founder of The GenderCool Project, and Maureen Deely, principal of Wayne Thomas Elementary School in Highland Park, IL.
