Listen & Build: Implementing a Comprehensive Transgender Health Center in Academic Medicine
This presentation tells a story and seeks wisdom through engaged dialogue between healthcare leaders and community members. The presenters, senior diversity & inclusion and clinical leaders, will describe the challenges and opportunities of implementing a Center for Transgender Health at Johns Hopkins Medicine, a health system anchored in academic medicine. The results of community outreach to a national transgender audience concerning their perspectives on quality transgender care will be shared. The centerpiece of the presentation is a large group discussion which seeks to solicit the voices of the community about practical healthcare challenges. This presentation will provide the audience with the opportunity to make recommendations and share perspectives. This feedback will be used to inform the evolution of a center of care as well as enhance transgender health education across disciplines and focus research aimed at improving the health of the transgender community and reducing the healthcare disparities it faces.
