The Fight for Transgender Student Rights in 2017
These last few years, 2016 and 2017, are big ones in the fight for transgender student equality. In 2017, the Supreme Court will hear arguments for Gloucester County School Board v. G.G., a case involving the right of a transgender student to use the bathroom consistent with his gender identity. And, in legislatures and at ballot boxes across the country, opponents of trans equality are attempting to move restrictive legislation. This workshop will detail the status of the fights in the courts, the legislature, and at the ballot, using Washington State as a case study. We will also discuss the tactics and messages used by transgender leaders and allies.
