The Gender Odyssey Planning Committee is continuously working to make the Gender Odyssey conferences more affordable and accessible for conference attendees facing financial challenges. We acknowledge that Seattle is an expensive place to stay in the summer; even our negotiated group rates at certain hotels are out of reach for many people.
For the 2017 Seattle conference, we are excited to launch the GO Community Housing program. This project will help to identify welcoming families, individuals, and organizations in the Seattle/King County area with accommodations who are willing to open their space to low-income conference attendees. Gender Odyssey is grateful to the generosity and hospitality of the Seattle community for holding space for those who might otherwise be unable to attend these life-changing events.
- Hosts: Our requested application deadline for housing providers is April 1, 2017; we will, however, continue to accept and seek new providers until we have matched all requests. Thank you for supporting Gender Odyssey with your hospitality!
- Guests: We are offering priority placement to scholarship recipients who apply before March 26, 2017, as we anticipate being overwhelmed with requests. If you’re looking for housing, PLEASE SIGN UP ASAP!!
Our housing committee will do everything we can to match hosts and guests based on the information provided on the application forms. For example, a guest with pet allergies will not be placed in a home with pets. The more details you can provide about you and your accommodations, the better we can find your best match!
We cannot guarantee free housing to anyone. We recommend you have a backup plan for housing in case we are unable to find a match.
We rely on the generosity of the Seattle community. We appreciate your help in spreading the word to help secure more housing options for our attendees!
Statement of Expected Conduct [PDF]
Gender Odyssey strives to make the conference a safe and welcoming environment for all. Gender Odyssey attendees do not engage in sexual or other harassment; do not provide alcohol or cannabis to attendees under the age of 21; do not provide controlled substances/drugs to any person. Gender Odyssey expects that our Community Housing hosts, guests, and other partners will also abide by these policies in the context of community housing placements.
GO Community Housing guests are placed in private homes. Gender Odyssey expects that guests will respect hosts’ wishes, limits, and boundaries regarding the agreed-upon length of stay; alcohol, drug, and tobacco use in the home; uses of the kitchen and other common areas of the home; and any other procedures of the house.
If your status as a host or guest changes such that you either cannot provide housing or you no longer need housing, please let us know ASAP at email@example.com.
