Feature (13+) – Athens Boys Choir
Ok, so the name Athens Boys Choir can be a bit deceiving but you can’t blame a Jewish transsexual man living in the Deep South for having a sense of humor about the whole ordeal. Harvey Katz (aka Athens Boys Choir) has spent the good part of the last ten years on the road, bringing his unique blend of spoken word and parody videos to eager queers worldwide. His performance poetry is rapid-fire word-play that shines light on lives that rarely get airtime. Katz gives voice to a community that needs to be heard; he is an artist who knows the power of word and uses it wisely. His aim is to build community and change the world one poem at a time, and his aim is steady. His heart-on-the-sleeve linguistic exploration is matched by his enthusiastic, potent performances. Through the course of one poem, he manages to bring the audience to the verge of tears and turn them on their heads with laughter. Katz is a compassionate, complicated and seasoned performer.
