Event Descriptions

Opening Night Party
Friday, September 4, 2009 8:30 PM, The Garage’s Echo Room
Our opening night party will provide conference attendees, as well as people from the local community, a chance to have fun and socialize. Grab a cocktail, start with an appetizer and/or have dinner. You’ll meet new folks and, if you’ve attended in the past, have a chance to connect with old friends too. We’ll have two private pool tables and a lot of space to hang out. Don’t miss it! No host bar, 21 and over only please.

Partners Lunch
Saturday, September 5, 2009, 11:40 AM Meet at the registration area. Meet up at the registration table at 11:45 am. Our Partner’s Lunch, new this year to Gender Odyssey, is an opportunity for partners of transgender people to meet one another over a casual lunch. Come meet others with whom you will have at least one thing in common: having a trans partner!

Couple’s Dinner
Saturday, September 5, 2009, 7PM at the Garage
The Couple’s Dinner, also a new event at Gender Odyssey, is an opportunity for couples, both young and old, new and long-term, to get to know one another better over dinner. Share interests and experiences relating to our unique relationships. Then, consider going as a group to catch Peterson Toscano’s Transfiguations at the Silver Cloud, 9:00pm.

Gender Queer Reception
Saturday, September 5, 2009, 6:30 PM Kaladi Coffee
Don’t box me in! If this is your motto, then we have the party for you! Get together with other gender fluid and gender non-conforming queers and have a blast. Meet new people or re-connect with old friends over a cuppa joe and a vegan donut. Mix, mingle, and meld genders with other genderqueers!

Transfigurations—Transgressing Gender in the Bible
Saturday, September 5, 2009 9:00PM, Silver Cloud Hotel.
Transfigurations is a phenomenal one-person show exploring gender and the bible by international theatrical performance artist, Peterson Toscano. Transfigurations unearths transgender Bible characters – those who don’t fit in the gender binary – and who, in their gender transgression, find themselves center stage in some of the Bible's most important stories. Transfigurations has been performed at Bard College, the University of British Columbia, and the William Penn House in Washington DC.

Gay City Pub Crawl
Saturday, September 5, 2009, 9:00PM, Meet at Kaladi Coffee, also home to Gay City’s offices.
This is not your mother’s idea of a wholesome night out! This year’s Gay City Pub Crawl is for masculine-identified transguys who want to have sex with men or who are interested in having sex with men. From the seasoned pro, to the newbie in gay culture, you’ll get a tour of Seattle’s gayest, hippest clubs and gain an opportunity to learn more about gay male culture than we dare write about.

BBQ
Sunday, September 6, 2009 6:00 PM, Central Lutheran Church
Join us at Gender Odyssey’s most popular event – a BBQ with all the traditional fixings! The BBQ is free to all Gender Odyssey attendees. Friends and community are welcome for a $10 suggested donation. This event is all about the food and hanging out with friends.

Play Party
Sunday, September 6, 2009, 9:00 PM CSPC
The Play Party, in sponsorship with the Center for Sex Positive Culture, is a rare and special opportunity to engage in very adult play in a trans and gender variant supportive space space. 18+ only. $20.

Gay City Health Screenings
Sunday, September 6, 2009 3:00-7:00 PM, Olive 8
Seattle's Gay City Health Project, in partnership with Gender Odyssey, is offering FREE individualized Anonymous or Confidential rapid HIV testing, coupled with sexual health promotion counseling at this year's Gender Odyssey conference. Gay City's mission is to build inclusive community, foster communication, and nurture self-esteem through a multitude of services, including client-centered counseling addressing sexual health and has a history of trans inclusive programming and cultural competency. This is an excellent opportunity for transgender people on the masculine spectrum, who have sex with men or who want to have sex with men, to spend a half an hour privately talking with Gay City’s Sex Educator and Outreach Manager about their concerns, covering the ins and outs of holistic sexual health. Appointments are still available. To schedule an appointment email: screenings@genderodyssey.org.

YWCA Health Screenings
Monday, September 7, 10:00-2:00 PM, Olive 8
Gender Odyssey has teamed up this year with the Seattle YWCA LGBT Health Program to provide health screenings at this year’s conference. Dr. Christopher Bosted, a Seattle based naturopath at the Spectrum Natural Health Clinic, will be performing the screenings. Dr. Bosted’s practice specifically serves transgender and gender variant people, in addition to the lesbian, gay and bisexual community. The transgender and gender variant community can be one of the last groups of people to access health care, so we encourage folks to take advantage of this unique opportunity to see a doctor who is both familiar with and understands your needs. The screenings offered will be: Blood Pressure, Clinical Chest Exams, Pelvic Checks and Lab/HPV/STD, and Prostate Exams.

These screenings are free for un- or under insured income eligible people over age 40, via the Washington Breast and Cervical Health Program. Private insurance is also welcome. We take Aetna, Uniform, Lifewise, Premera, and Cigna. Limited assistance is available for those who do not fit these requirements or who do not have the coverage listed. To schedule an appointment email: screenings@genderodyssey.org.

Wind Down Party
Monday, September 7, 2009, 5:00 PM, Kaladi Coffee
The Wind Down Party is your last chance to connect with others from the Gender Odyssey conference this year. Say goodbye to old friends, get that number from the person you wanted to talk to, and just celebrate another year at the Gender Odyssey conference with pastries and coffee that will be available for purchase.
