Help Wanted! Host a Visiting Conference Attendee

Gender Odyssey launches the Community Housing Program

2017 marks the official launch of the Gender Odyssey COMMUNITY HOUSING PROGRAM, designed to help those whose financial situation makes paying for a hotel stay during conference impossible. In tandem with the GO Scholarships and Subsidies  – which can reduce or even waive registration fees – the Community Housing program is intended to go even further to reduce costs for out of town travelers.  The program is designed to bring together travelers and local hosts / families who have sleeping spaces to offer during the conference.

Could you be a Host?

Hosts have a spare couch, bed, tent, blow up mattress, guest house, or RV that they are willing to share for a few nights during conference. Individuals and families from across the U.S. save and scrape just to get here for Gender Odyssey.  You can make the difference.

We turn to each other to make this community what it is.

If you can give in this way, please consider opening your doors. Let us know today!  As long as there are guests who need help, we’ll be looking for suitable hosts. If that’s you, you’ll be making a dramatic difference for a hopeful attendee.

How does it work?

Potential hosts complete a kind of application, telling us what kind of space they can offer, and what sort of ‘house rules’ they have.  Potential guests fill out a kind of application, telling us about their sleeping and transportation situation.  Gender Odyssey reviews everything and matches Hosts with Guests.

Ready, Set, GO!

Statement of Expected Conduct [PDF]

Gender Odyssey strives to make the conference a safe and welcoming environment for all. Gender Odyssey attendees do not engage in sexual or other harassment; do not provide alcohol or cannabis to attendees under the age of 21; do not provide controlled substances/drugs to any person. Gender Odyssey expects that our Community Housing hosts, guests, and other partners will also abide by these policies in the context of community housing placements.

GO Community Housing guests are placed in private homes. Gender Odyssey expects that guests will respect hosts’ wishes, limits, and boundaries regarding the agreed-upon length of stay; alcohol, drug, and tobacco use in the home; uses of the kitchen and other common areas of the home; and any other procedures of the house.

If your status as a host or guest changes such that you either cannot provide housing or you no longer need housing, please let us know ASAP at
